Attribution reporting

Understand how VisiLead classifies every visit into a channel, including AI assistants as their own sources, and where to read the reports.

Reflects product behavior as of August 2026.

Every visit's source is normalized through a channel taxonomy with six channels: paid, organic, social, email, referral and direct. You read channels, not raw referrer strings, and you can still drill down to the individual source behind each visit.

AI assistants are first-class sources. Traffic from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, You.com and Phind is recognized and classified as organic, so AI-referred visitors show up as their own line.

Reports live in two places. Dashboard > Channels shows visits, identified companies and hot leads per channel plus top pages, and the Traffic Sources widget on the overview shows visitors and conversions per source. All widgets obey one shared date range picker.

Before you start

  • The tracking script installed
  • utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign parameters on your campaign links
  1. 1

    Tag your campaign links

Add utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to your campaign URLs. Paid detection keys off utm_medium: values like cpc, ppc, paid and paidsearch, or any medium containing "ads", map the visit to the matching ad network (Google Ads, Bing Ads, Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads, TikTok Ads, Reddit Ads, X Ads).

  2. 2

    Open the Channels report

Go to Dashboard > Channels to see visits, identified companies and hot leads per channel, plus the top pages for the period.

  3. 3

    Check the Traffic Sources widget

On the dashboard overview, the Traffic Sources widget breaks down visitors and conversions per source.

  4. 4

Set one date range for everything

Use the shared date range picker. Every widget obeys it, so the numbers across the dashboard always describe the same period.

  5. 5

    Drill into a company's journey

Open a company record and read its visit timeline. Each visit shows which channel and campaign brought it, so you can trace exactly how an account found you.

How sources map to channels

Search engines are organic. LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Reddit, YouTube, Product Hunt, GitHub, Slack and WhatsApp are social. G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, Medium and Substack are referral. Mailchimp, beehiiv, Kit and Klaviyo are email. Ad-serving referrer hosts such as doubleclick, googlesyndication, taboola and outbrain are paid. Unknown referrers fall back to a cleaned domain name under referral.

Anonymous traffic is labeled honestly

Traffic that cannot be matched to a business is classified as crawler (ad-verification bots), residential, or no-match, and badged in the Companies table, so your identified numbers are not inflated by bots or home networks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I segment pricing page visitors by source or campaign?+

Open Dashboard > Channels to see visits, identified companies and hot leads per channel along with top pages, then open any company that visited your pricing page: its visit timeline shows which channel and campaign brought each visit. Conversions also carry first-touch and last-touch source, medium and campaign automatically.

Can I see website visitors who came from ChatGPT or other AI assistants?+

Yes. VisiLead recognizes traffic from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, You.com and Phind and classifies it as organic, with each AI assistant shown as its own source line.

How does VisiLead detect paid traffic?+

Two ways. A utm_medium of cpc, ppc, paid or paidsearch, or any medium containing "ads", maps the visit to the matching ad network (Google Ads, Bing Ads, Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads, TikTok Ads, Reddit Ads, X Ads), and visits referred by ad-serving hosts such as doubleclick, googlesyndication, taboola and outbrain are classified paid as well.

What channels does VisiLead report on?+

Six channels: paid, organic, social, email, referral and direct. Every visit's source is normalized into one of them, and unknown referrers fall back to a cleaned domain name under referral.

How can I attribute website visits to my campaigns?+

Tag your campaign links with utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. VisiLead normalizes each visit into a channel, shows visitors and conversions per source in the Traffic Sources widget, and attaches first-touch and last-touch source, medium and campaign to every conversion.

Why do some rows in the Companies table show a crawler or residential badge?+

Because that traffic could not be matched to a business. VisiLead classifies anonymous traffic as crawler (ad-verification bots), residential, or no-match and badges it in the Companies table, so identified company counts stay trustworthy.
